What Is Falcon Player (FPP) and Do You Need It?

June 9, 2026 · 6 min read

Falcon Player (FPP) is free, open-source software that runs on a Raspberry Pi and acts as the conductor of your display — triggering video, lights, and audio in perfect sync.

If you're only running a single projection loop, you don't need FPP yet; a simple media player will do. FPP earns its place once you want to sequence multiple elements together: projection plus pixel lights plus an FM-broadcast soundtrack, all on a schedule.

The learning curve is real but well-documented, and our community has walked thousands of people through it. Start with a basic playlist, get one show running on a schedule, then layer in more controllers.

In the member tutorials we cover the full FPP setup step by step, plus the wiring and scheduling patterns that keep a multi-element show reliable through the season.
